His first film Vamsam is based on a Village environment script, but Udhayan is totally different from Vamsam and is a city based film. The film is directed by Chaplin, who earlier worked as an associate for directors Dharani, Karu Pazhaniappan and Pandiraj. Arulnithi was impressed with the story narration by the director and immediately accepted to do the film. Tollywood actress Praneetha is going to share the screen with Arulnithi.
The film is produced by Prabhakaran under the banner of Muthamizh Padaippagam. Music is given by debutant Manikanth Kadri, who is the son of ace Saxophone player Kadri Gopalnath. S D Vijay Milton is handling the camera while Dilip Subbarayan is doing the stunt choreography.
