Choreographers Shobi and Lalitha are the hot duo rocking the dance scene in Kollywood and Tollywood. Though the twosome work separately, they have come together and launched a dance school in IBO that is already popular with youngsters.
Shobi, son of late veteran dance master Paul Raj was introduced in Tamil films by none other than Kamal Haasan in Vasool Raja MBBS. Having choreographed for Southern and Hindi movies as well, Shobi shot to the limelight with the song Vaala Meenukkum Vilangu Meenukkum from Chitthiram Pesudhadi. Talking about his long stint in the Tamil industry, Shobi says, “Vijay songs made me very popular. From Thirupaachi to Vettaikkaran, the directors prefer me for the ‘Kutthu’ numbers for which Vijay is famous.”
Shobi has a distinct dance style and says Vedhika, Tamannah, Jyotika, Simran and Shriya are good dancers and pick up movements fast. “The 360-degree motion control song from the movie Thillalangadi which features 15 Jeyam Ravis and five Tamannahs was a challenge,” he says.
Lalitha who began dancing in films at the age of eight has more than 1,000 films to her credit.
Lalitha is turning independent with a Telugu movie starring Prabhas in the lead and produced by Dil Raju.
The dancers say their school will teach international dance forms and usher in professionalism that Chennai lacks.
