Multi Starrer Films is the New Trend in Kollywood Now

With global release and satellite rights becoming deciding factors of a film's success, Tamil directors now largely prefer a multi-star cast to attract maximum audience to cinemas and enhance value of their films before theatre-owners and TV channels.

The likes of Goa, Thoonganagaram, Vaanam, Ko, doing well at the box office, it has emboldened the likes of Ajith and Vijay to try their hands in such multi-starrer films. Mankatha features Ajith, Arjun among others, Vijay is acting in Naban with Jiiva and Srikanth.

'It is of course a new trend and the result is positive so far. The audience always like to see their favourite actors together in films. Most superstars were not interested in combination movies before,' a director said.

All are now willing to appear together if there is a good script and story line, he added.
Though popular stars acting together were common during the 1970s and 1980s, the trend changed since the late 1990s. Movies, in which superstars appeared together, were very rare.

Producers opine that multi-starrers do well at the box-office and it is not difficult to get the invested money back
