Though there were rumours in telly circles that currently-hot Namitha would replace Nadhiya in Jaya TV’s highly-rated programme Jackpot, it is now confirmed that it is Simran, once the Numero Uno of Tamil films, who has hit the ‘Jackpot’.
Apparently,Jackpot was one of the highest-rated programmes on Jaya TV (owned by a close aide of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Though the real reason for Nadhiya’s exit from the show is not known, sources say that the TRPs were coming down after Nadhiya took over and her style of conducting did not jell with audiences.
Also, with the change of political guard in the state, the producers wanted to give a makeover to a programme which was turning lackluster.
Around the same time, Simran, who has a certain rapport with Amma and is familiar with Jaya TV had approached the channel for a comeback vehicle.
One may recall that Simran had made a flashy entry into politics and campaigned for JJ in the 2006 assembly elections.
Insiders say that Simran got the plum offer of anchoring the show thanks to direct instructions from Amma.
Reportedly, though the chirpy actress is familiar with the Tamil language, Simran practiced pronouncing Tamil words correctly before entering the fray. Efforts to contact Simran proved futile.
