Prince will join the ranks of James Brown, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and Al Green when he receives a BET award later this month. The Purple Rain performer, who has scored 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles, will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the June 27 presentation.
The show will offer a tribute to the 52-year-old's "unique style", Stephen G. Hill, president of programming, music and specials for the network said.
"Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music," Hill added.
The BET Awards will feature a performance by Kanye West and will be hosted by Queen Latifah.
