President of India Pratibha Patil felicitated the winners Pasanga
The 57th National Film Awards-2009 ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. President of India Pratibha Patil felicitated the winners.

The best child artist award was given to D S Kishore and Sri Ram for their performance as ‘Anbukkarasu Vellaichamy’ and ‘Jeeva Nithyanandham Chokkalingam’ in the film ‘Pasanga’produced by Sasikumar and directed by Pandiraj .‘Pasanga’ also bagged the Rajat Kamal award for the best Tamil movie.

The President handed over the Best Actor Award to Amitabh Bachchan for his inspiring portrayal of a 13-year-old schoolboy in the Hindi film ‘Paa’, directed by Balki from Tamil Nadu.A standing ovation is given to Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

At the function, the President gave away the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award to Tollywood movie Mogul D Ramanaidu, who also made his entry in Guinness Record for producing the maximum number of movies in his career.

The best music director was presented to Amit Trivedi for the Hindi film ‘Dev D’ and the best background score was given to Ilayaraja for the Malayalam film ‘Pazhassi Raja’. For creating an epic grandeur by fusing symphonic orchestration with traditional Indian instrumentation.

In her speech, Pratibha Patil says: “Cinema plays a vital role in passing on a message in the society. Cinema works within the happenings of social situations thus, has a stake in the stability, prosperity and progress of society.

The President gave a suggestion to young and upcoming film makers to have an eye on the content of the film they are making. This will in turn facilitates their work for having a good number of viewers.

“All involved in the film industry should consider themselves social leaders and stakeholders in the welfare of people. Striking a balance between entertainment and social relevance is an essential call for the industry and the response will define its role in society”.

Ambika Soni Minister of Information & Broadcasting says in 2013 we will be celebrating centenary milestone to showcase the cinematic legacy of the Indian film industry in the last 100 years.
