Kollywood immature heartthrob Dhanush’s film ‘Uthamaputhiran’ has blasted the screens on the eve of Diwali. The film was released with highest number of prints all over Tamilnadu and in Chennai city itself it is screening in 16 theatres. The film starring Dhanush, Genelia and others in supporting roles comes up with an interesting story.
‘Uthamaputhiran’ Story
Siva (Dhanush) is a happy-go-lucky natured young guy. Siva had a helping nature and being a boy from a joint family, he always wants to be friendly with everyone, including those who try to be rival with him in college as well. On one occasion, Siva tries to help his friend to marry a girl whom he loved. But due to communication gap, Siva kidnaps Genelia (Pooja) unknowingly only to learn that he did a mistake. He gets to meet Genelia (Pooja), accidentally and falls flat in first sight. The film is all set to get into a ‘road race’ style with action, chases, remote locations and songs. On learning that Pooja wants to return to the US and it takes 10 more days to get the Visa and Passport, Siva manages to keep her with his parents. Here we get to introduce a joint family which is headed by Bhagyaraj. Pooja slowly gets close to family. It is all fun, babble and laughter in the first half .Somehow, Pooja gets caught by her maternal uncle. In order to save her and win her hand Siva prepares a good plan here ends the first half with a hilarious comedy.
On making his plans to tie knot to Pooja Siva turns an assistant to Ekambaram (Vivek), who was the auditor of both the brothers. Pooja who is in love with him wants to marry him only in presence of all her family members. So, Siva sets on the job of uniting both the warring families. Did he able to unite both the families? Post to interval the fun goes to higher with the introduction of ‘Washington Vettrivel’ and ‘Chicago Shakthivel’. The role play keeps us laughing and spellbound right down to the wire. The better details of the plot, the connection between the three families and the reason behind names such as ‘Washington Vettrivel’ will be known on the screens. Dhanush and Ekambaram (Vivek) rocked with the hilarious comedy and are appreciated for the comic timing. The comedy is terrific and is sure to bring the roof down. Vivek’s puzzled look after the introduction of the ‘Vettrivel-Shakthivel’ brothers will have you in crack; so will his banter with ‘subconscious memory’ which becomes highlight for the film. With all the hilarious comedy and role play, romance does take a backseat in the second half. How Siva manages to convince the elders of the families and the techniques he adopts to smoothen their hearts is rest of the story.
Performances
Coming to the performance in the film will take along time because of the size of the cast. But, to start with Dhanush showed excellent flexibility in his performance. He was simply superb in dances and action scenes. Under the guidance of director Mithran Jawahar, Dhanush showed perfection in comedy too. He improved a lot in histrionics and his body language is also very appropriate. The fight masters choreographed the action scenes in a stylish way. Instead of trying to show a six pack body, he showed good ease in action scenes. Genelia, who is a lucky mascot, shared her luck with Dhanush. However, she is tailor-made as Pooja and maintains her chivalrous kind of performance. One more highlight in the film is the performance of Vivek. This Padmashri holder, once again proved that he is the best and ace comedian of the Kollywood. All the other artistes did complete justice to their respective roles. Bhagyaraj, Ambika, Rekha, Ashish Vidhyarthi etc. had a great platform to showcase their experience Shriya made their presence on the screen like a flash.
The storyline is excellent. Especially, the elaboration of a delicate storyline, with the combination of elements like joint family, love, romance, comedy besides action was wonderful. The director needs compliments as he did wonders and made the audiences sit tight to their seats. Instead of going for a separate comedy track, the director allied the comedy with the main story, both the story and comedy gelled well with each others. The dialogues penned by Gopi Mohan were very casual and the audiences did not feel something cinematic on the screen. Cinematography by Balasubramaniyem is good. The screen till the end looked bright and cheerful. The picturization of songs and action scenes was good. The seven tracks given by Vijay Antony, appeared to be great. One could say that the entire movie is a director’s film and he was able to extract good performance from all the artistes equally. Production values of film are adequate.
The only drawback of the film is the poor climax. The climax was quite dull. However, Mithran Jawahar’s effort to give a message that money is not the criteria but only human relations will always rule the rest. The director once again tried to repeat that people should avoid nuclear families and go for joint families. As a whole, the director succeeded in achieving a hit.
