Rahman honoured with Indra Gandhi award National Integration on Oct 31
A R Rahman was honoured with the Indra Gandhi award for National Integration on 31st October, 2010 (Sunday) in Delhi. The awards were presented by Prime Minister Mamohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

The most prestigious Indra Gandhi award is presented annually to individuals or organizations in the recognition of their efforts for promoting National Integration on Indra Gandhi’s Memorial Day.

A R Rahman shared the 25th Indra Gandhi award with Ramakrishna Mission Narainpur, for their services in promoting and preserving National Integration. On behalf of the Ashram Swami Vyaptanand, the chairperson of the Ashram received the award. Speaking on the occasion, Sonia Gandhi said, there are many ways to promote National Integration. Rahman as a musician used his talent to spread the feeling of patriotism among the people and Ramakrishna Ashram through its work for tribals in Bastar region.

Prime Minister said, Rahman’s music has brought people together regardless of ages, caste or language and has also infused a feeling of unity.
