Priyamani saying that Tamil films are sadly lacking in good scripts

Following on the footsteps of actor Aarya, who is in the eye of a storm for his disparaging remarks about the Tamil film industry and its quality in producing actors, it’s the turn of actress Priyamani to go on record saying that Tamil films are sadly lacking in good scripts. “It’s because of this single factor that I haven’t been signing up many Tamil projects,” says the pretty Priyamani.

Even before the heat generated by the comments of Aarya could die down, Priyamani has kicked up fresh dust with her comments about Tamil cinema. The actress, who is one of the very few actresses in Tamil who dub in their own voices, has already won the national award for best actress for her role in Ameer’s ‘Paruthiveeran’ three years back.

Priyamani debuted in Tamil films as heroine in director Bharathiraaja’s ‘Kangalal Kaidhu Sei’ more than five years back but the film bombed. It was due to Balumahendraa’s ‘Adhu Oru Kanaakalam’ and Ameer’s ‘Paruthiveeran’ that she came to be reckoned as an actress of substance.

In a recent interview, she has said “Tamil films don’t offer challenging scripts; the producers and directors whom I met recently didn’t provide me with any novel scripts. That’s why I haven’t taken up any new Tamil film offer. I can only take up the offer which gives me some scope to act; this sort of a situation doesn’t prevail in Telugu films.”

These comments are sure to irk Tamil activists!
