Samuthirakani does have
the versatility to switch gears almost at will. He is quite adept at
putting on the director’s hat and bringing to celluloid version a film’s
script with aplomb; at the same time, he can also effortlessly slip
into the role offered to him by other directors. Readers might recall
that he was quite impressive in the cop’s role in his last film
‘Easan’. Anbazhagan, who worked as an assistant under director Prabhu Solomon, turns director with a film titled ‘Saattai’.
Samuthirakani plays the lead role of a
teacher in the film, which is produced by Shalom Studios, the same
production house which produced last year’s block-buster film ‘Mynaa’.

Obviously, the script is about the
relationship that exists between a noble teacher and his students and
has been set against the backdrop of a School functioning in a rural
locality. “The film would be definitely different from the
run-of-the-mill stuff; in fact, the film would be ‘vastly different’
from the accepted versions of formulae which go into making a film,” Anbazhagan sounds too confident for a debutant director.
Boyish-faced Ajmal Khan, who debuted as
hero in the recent film ‘Paasakkara Nanbargal’ directed by his father
Feroz Khan, has been roped into play a significant role in ‘Saattai’.
Ajmal would henceforth be known as Yuvan as he has gone in for a change
of name. Thambi Ramaiah, who recently won the coveted national award
for ‘best supporting award’, is also part of the cast.
Samuthirakani will start shooting for
the film only after he wraps up his directorial venture ‘Poraali’ which
has friend Sasikumar in the lead. “I liked the script narrated by
Solomon and agreed to do the film. Surprisingly, the role I would be
playing is not so dissimilar to Mr. Kadarkarai, who taught me science
during my school days,” laughs Samuthirakani.
