In Kollywood the remakes continue to rule the roost and director Subramanian Siva who was inspired by the Malayalam version has made an attempt to bring this emotional love story Seedan into Tamil. The combo of Subramaniam Siva, Dhanush & Dheena has earlier created a stupendous record with Thiruda Thirudi. Seedan is the remake of Malayalam film Nandanam which was released in 2002 which tuned as a super hit.
Debutant Krishna and Naadodigal fame Ananya played the lead roles while Dhanush is seen in an extended cameo role. Prithviraj has done the lead in the Tamil version also. The other crucial roles are played by Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Sheela, Meera Krishnan, Vivek Ponvannan and Ilavarasu. Dhanush is playing the role of cook and plays a major role in bringing the lead pair together. With Seedan Dhanush completes his 50th film and the film is all set to hit the screens today.
Music is by Dheena while Srinivas Devamsam a former associate of PC Sreeram has done the cinematography work. Mohan of Myth Productions has produced the film.
Seedan Story
Here we go with the story. An orphan young girl Maha Lakshmi (Ananya) makes her way to work as a servant at Thangam’s (Suhasini) home in Palani. She is an ardent devotee of Lord Muruga and loves to spend her time in the devotional activities. Maha Lakshmi shares her worries with the idol set in her room. She always dreamt of her dream boy and decides to marry only him as he is the one selected by her Lord Muruga. One fine day Maha Lakshmi gets shocked when Thangam’s only son Mano (Krishna) comes home to be with his mother for a few days as decides to leave to USA for pursing higher studies. On the first look itself Maha Lakshmi realizes that Mano is her man in her dreams. Both of them end up falling in love with each other.
But Mano’s mother, who doesn’t know about her son's affair, makes an arrangement for his wedding with her friend’s daughter. By seeing this Mano discloses his love to his mother. Just like the regular cinema Mano’s decision to marry the maid servant was not received by all. Here enters the man behind the screen Saravanan (Dhanush) as a cook. By knowing their love affair he constantly strives to make her dreams achievable. Will Maha Lakshmi dreams come true? Who is Saravanan? Why is he taking special interest in her marriage? Should be watched on the silver screen.
Performances:
Dhanush, though seen in an extended cameo he performed aptly in the role of Saravanan. Dhanush attitude should be appreciated for doing a cameo, besides being a big star.
Debutant Krishna as Mano is okay and he still needs to improve on his emotional expressions.
Ananya is perfect in the role of Maha Lakshmi. She looked as natural as a housemaid and performed well.
Vivek as GumbidiSwamy pairs up with Dhanush to give out some laugh out loud scenes of the film. The comedy is enjoyable as it is weaved with the story, and keeps the story moving to the climax.
Suhasini gave a decent performance as Thangam and looked apt in the role of widowed mother. The rest of the cast Sheela, Ponvannan and Ilavarasu gave their best performances on their limits.
Director Subrahmanyam Siva has done a good job but if would have tried to add some freshness to script Seedan would have gone to places. The dialogues too in the film are very much heard in all Tamil cinemas.
Music by Dheena is easy on the ears and cinematography by Srinivasan is convincing.
On the technical parts there is nothing to discuss as it’s a simple story weaved with drama and emotions.
Quick Take: Regular Family Entertainer weaved with emotions!
