Famed South Indian playback singer S. Janaki fell in the bathroom of her hotel on Tuesday morning, injuring her head, and was rushed to the TTD-run Sri Venkates-wara Institute of Medical Sciences, where her condition was declared 'absolutely safe'.
S. Janaki has been here for three days, taking part in the Annamacharya Sankeerthanas recitation by her relative and TTD’s singer Garimella Balakrishna Prasad. In a health bulletin, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) director Dr B. Vengamma said the 73-year-old singer was a diabetic and hypertensive, but all her vital parameters were stable. She brushed aside rumours that the singer had slipped into a coma.
“We thoroughly examined the head injury. We call it subgaleal haematoma, injury below the skin. The brain portions are safe. She doesn’t have any other injury. We put in six sutures. She is likely to be discharged soon,” the director said.
There was a heavy media presence at the hospital and patients from other wards tried to get a glimpse of the singer, but were stopped by guards.
Muralikrishna, the singer’s son, pleaded with the media and public to desist from entering her room.
