Hollywood’s been a dream run for actress Naomi Watts — best known for her hit films including The Ring, King Kong, Eastern Promises, and several others

Hollywood’s been a dream run for actress Naomi Watts — best known for her hit films including The Ring, King Kong, Eastern Promises, and several others — and in the star’s own words, “There’s no better way to earn a living than to be paid for what you’re most passionate about.”

However, Naomi also reveals that being a mum does take a priority over everything, including work. But she also admits to have almost made an exception in the case of her upcoming Doug Liman film. In fact, the actress signed up for the film inspite of admitting that the film’s script couldn’t have come to her at a worst time, as she’d just given birth to her second child in 2008 with long-term partner Liev Schreiber.

“It could not have been worse timing. I’d just had my second child and I wasn’t reading anything, but I did know the story. So, I was instantly intrigued,” she says about the action thriller that’s based on the autobiography of real-life undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame, whose career was destroyed and marriage strained when her covert identity was exposed by a politically motivated leak.

A self-admitted fan of the spy movie genre, Naomi points out that this one isn’t the run-of-the-mill spy flick. “There’re no gadgets and slick, groovy, kind of cool moments, anything that’s kind of unreal. But this film is much rooted in truth and far more intriguing.” That’s also why the actress and filmmaker decided to cut all the middlemen out when they approached their lead actor Sean Penn.

“Sean and I are friends. And I just knew that that this content would be kind of irresistible to him. So, I just mailed him the script directly and got a message saying ‘Great script’.”

Talking about the preparation that went into the role, she adds, “We did things like cars ramming at full speeds without helmets or seatbelts, a lot of shooting… things I’m not allowed to talk about, because they were so dangerous and illegal,” she smiles.
Apart from her interest in spy films, Naomi doesn’t rule out the possibility of doing Bollywood films either. “I think the Indian film industry is very exciting right now, and is really getting a lot of attention internationally. There’s quite a lot of interest in Indian films out here too,” she signs off.
